Pressed from the seeds of the flax plant, Flaxseed Oil (Linum usitatissimum) is rich in vitamins and minerals and is a source of essential fatty acids, as well as alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Flaxseeds also contain omega-6 fatty acids in the form of linoleic acid; omega-6 oils are the same healthy fats found in vegetable oils. Flaxseed oil only contains these alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3 oils), and not the fiber or lignan components that the whole plant contains. For skin, this oil helps seal in moisture, reduces inflammation, and softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. For hair, flaxseed oil improves strength and shine, minimizes dandruff and flakiness, moisturizes, and helps prevent hair loss.
